Description
Intermediary between men and deities, the kingfisher transmits the wishes formulated by the diviner or the voodoo priest to the deities of the air and water worlds. Its beak is nailed with a padlock obliging it to keep the secret. The oxidized silver sphere represents the world. Its skull mounted on an open ring reminiscent of African manacles or bracelets symbolizes wealth.
The necklace incorporates an ancient glass bead with applied floral decoration. It was made in Murano (Venice) between the 19th and early 20th centuries as part of the trade with Africa. Offered to deities, it allows to activate the wish.
